On Monday, May 15th, Université Paris-Dauphine faced off with 11 other Grandes Écoles Epicurean clubs in an exceptional wine and food pairing contest.

The ESSENS-Ferrières Cup is the first combined Wine tasting and Gastronomy competition for students from France's Grandes Écoles. The competition aims to foster knowledge-sharing and promote French savoir-faire and Art of Living.

The ESSENS-Ferrières Cup takes place once a year at the Hospitality School's Ferrières Castle campus, just a few kilometers from Paris, on an estate that once belonged to James de Rothschild.

The competition includes a qualifying round that pits all 12 teams and their members against each other, and a final round for the 4 top teams at the end of the qualifying round.

This year's contestants hailed from 12 Grandes Écoles: Paris-Dauphine, AgroParis Tech, l'Edhec, SupAgro Montepellier, ESTP, Emlyon, ASSAS, Mines, ENSTA, Kedge, Polytechnique, and Sciences Po.

In the first qualifying event, students were asked to identify different wines and various dishes. In the second event, contestants were asked taste a selection of red wines and 4 dessert wines (with their labels showing), choose which wines were best-suited to a specific dish, then eliminate one of the wines, and finally propose an alternative pairing with a different wine.

After the victory, teams met with executives from the Moët Henessy group, then attended a conference and a wine-based mixology workshop.

Congratulations to our champions!
