Paris-Dauphine students get their careers off to a highly promising start within a year of obtaining their Master’s degree

The results from the 2016 annual survey offer yet more evidence of the quality of the job placement services provided to Paris-Dauphine graduates.

Virtually all have found a position, they love their work and they’re satisfied with their level of responsibility and compensation. As of January 1, 2018 – one year after obtaining their degree – 86% of the students had found employment. Five percent had opted to continue their studies and just 7% were conducting a job search. Remarkably, the average time period for finding initial employment was one month after receiving the degree.

Internships: Springboard to a professional career

A quarter of the students landed their first job as a result of an internship, and 10% found employment through an apprenticeship. Twenty-four percent of the students found a position by responding to a job opening, 15% used networking, 9% were hired in response to an unsolicited application and 6% found jobs after posting their CV on the Web. Eleven percent started their own business, won a competition for positions or used recruitment firms.

An average salary of nearly €43,000

Three quarters of the students have signed a permanent employment contract; just 23% have temporary work contracts or some other form of employment, such as Volunteers for International Experience. Company directors, professionals and the self-employed make up a mere 2% of the graduate population. Another notable indicator: the average gross salary is €42,957, while the median wage is €41,000.

Persistent gender inequality

Women have been slightly more successful at finding employment: 86.1% are now employed, versus 85.5% of the men. But a number of gaps remain: 89% of the women are in managerial positions, compared to 94% of the men. In terms of salary, women earn 9% less than men. The good news is that the wage gap is diminishing: last year it stood at 15%. 

90% of graduates chose the private sector

More than half of these graduates (51%) are working at companies with more than 1,000 employees, while 35% are at firms with a workforce of more than 5,000; 16% are at companies with fewer than 50 employees. The sectors with the highest representation of Paris-Dauphine graduates are finance and insurance (28%); auditing, consulting and engineering (23%); services (14%); information and communication (7%); health, education or administration (7%); manufacturing (7%).

A wide array of job titles

Most graduates are employed in finance or treasury positions (21%); management control, audit and accounting (10%); marketing (12%) and information technology (9%). Eight percent have jobs in research and development; an additional 8% are in management and administration and 6% work in law and taxation.

Young professionals in fulfilling careers

As for their well-being, 93% of the graduates say they find their work interesting, and the same number enjoy their work environment. Eighty-nine percent are satisfied with their level of responsibility, while 79% find their workload acceptable. Moreover, three-quarters report a healthy balance between their personal and professional lives. Last but not least, 78% say their company offers the potential for career advancement.

The survey of recent graduates was conducted by Pluricité in collaboration with the Dauphine Career Center and the CAP. There were 1,385 respondents, representing 70% of the students surveyed.
