Healthy eating for students: Fondation Carrefour “goes to college”

World Food Day 2017 provided Fondation Carrefour with a perfect opportunity to raise student awareness of food insecurity and how important healthy eating really is. Two important subjects for today’s society.

According to a study published by the Federation of Student Associations (Fédération des Associations Générales Etudiantes), 20% of students in France are living below the poverty line. Of even greater concern, 65% of those surveyed say that they regularly skip meals, mainly for financial motives.

On October 13th, 2017, Université Paris-Dauphine, Fondation Carrefour, and AGORAé social grocery stores, with the support of Fondation Dauphine, organized a public conference on the importance of healthy, diversified eating. Le Mouvement UP (Group SOS), a social and societal impact entrepreneurial NGO, presented inclusive digital innovations to help students improve their eating habits.
Their “UP Café” provided an opportunity to highlight initiatives to fight student food insecurity:

  • HopHopFood: a mobile geolocation app to facilitate local food exchanges
  • Foodette: a provider of healthy, balanced recipe-based food baskets, to free up culinary creativity and give people a taste for cooking with fresh ingredients instead of processed foods
  • Paupiette: an initiative that put seniors and students in contact to eat lunch together – in order to fight solitude for the elderly and give students access to healthy, balanced, low-cost meals.
