Calls for projects

EU programs

In order to strengthen research within the EU and increase EU competitiveness, the European Union finances numerous research and innovation initiatives via calls for projects and calls for tenders launched by the various EU Directorates and within the framework of HORIZON 2020.

HORIZON 2020

From January 1st 2014, HORIZON 2020, the European Framework Program for Research and Innovation, will take over from the current FP7 programs: the European Framework Program for Research and Technological Development, the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Program and European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) programs.

Horizon 2020 is an integral part of the EU's EUROPE 2020 growth and jobs strategy, designed to create the conditions for a smart, sustainable and inclusive growth.

HORIZON 2020 is organized around 3 priority focus areas:

Intergovernmental programs

The European Science Foundation

ESF programs finance initiatives to strengthen and consolidate international collaboration and exchange in research and as well as conferences and workshops in fields chosen freely by grant applicants.

COST programs

COST is an intergovernmental framework for European Cooperation in Science and Technology. Programs finance scientific cooperation, European mobility of researchers and cooperation with the scientific communities of emerging nations.

COST focuses on nine key science and technology fields:
