French as a Foreign Language

Université Paris-Dauphine has long been home to a significant number of international students and their number is growing. To facilitate their integration, Dauphine offers 3 different modules in French as a Foreign Language: Intensive language seminars in September and January, semester-long courses reserved for exchange students and special French language and culture seminars reserved for Master's 2, PhD and Post-Doctoral students and visiting professors.

I – Intensive French as a Foreign Language Seminars

FLE seminars are fee-based and are held at the beginning of each semester, in September and in January. They are open to all our exchange students.

An email is sent to exchange students after their nomination : June (seminar in September) and November (seminar January).

II - Semester-long courses

Semester-long French language courses are reserved exclusively for international exchange students. They are free of charge and each successfully completed semester course gives credits.

We offer two types of course:

  • General or basic courses: learning French through grammar, vocabulary, morphosyntax and the development of oral and written skills.
  • Theme-based courses: learning French through arts & culture, civilization, the media, literature, phonetics, the theater and film.

III – Special French language and culture seminars reserved for Master's 2, PhD and Post-Doctoral students and visiting professors.

Dauphine offers special French language and culture training reserved exclusively for Master's2, PhD and Post-graduate students and for visiting professors.

The course is coordinated by Odile CHALLE, Lecturer and HDR researcher in Language Studies. The course is designed to develop students' French language skills, particularly for research work, and help them adapt more quickly to the demands of the French university system (methodology, culturally-specific behavior…)

The course takes the interests of the participants into account, notably to improve their skill sets for:

  • Presenting research projects
  • Participating in debates and round-table discussions
  • Defending  theses before a jury
  • An in-depth understanding lectures and conferences
  • Analyzing specialized publications and documents using specialized terminologies
  • Writing academic documents: dissertations, theses, articles...
