Conference of December 18
Nassim Nicholas Taleb at La Sorbonne
Who is Nassim Nicholas Taleb ?
Nassim Nicholas Taleb spent 21 years as a derivatives trader before becoming a philosophical essayist and researcher specializing in mathematical problems with probability and a "real world" approach to risk management. He is currently Distinguished Professor of Risk Engineering at New York University.
Taleb is the author of the INCERTO (Fooled by Randomness, The Black Swan, Antifragile, The Bed of Procrustes), with a parallel technical version Probability and Risk in the Real World from which this course is adapted. He is also the author of Dynamic Hedging and numerous academic publications across different fields, ranging from Physica A, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization and Quantitative Finance to Foreign Affairs. His body of work has 96 translations into 33 languages.
Taleb refuses all honors and prizes as they debase knowledge by turning it into competitive sport.
The Conference theme
"How to deal with unpredictability, in economics and in life ?"
Do you think most of life is predictable? The BBC’s Justin Rowlatt and an audience of over a thousand will join the one of the most important seers of the modern age, Nassim Taleb. He is the author of Black Swan and has been described as a ‘super hero of the mind’ (Independent), ‘the hottest thinker in the world’ (Sunday Times) and claims the events that define us are never foretold. He will be answering questions on how to predict what an economy will do and what an understanding of random events could contribute to stability around the world.
